چکیده

OBJECTIVE TO CLINICALLY AND RADIOGRAPHICALLY COMPARE THE RESULTS OF TREATMENT OF HALLUX VALGUS, BY TWO ADDITION OSTEOTOMY TECHNIQUES: one using resected exostosis, and the other using a plate fixation for addition wedge. METHODS We evaluated 24 feet of 19 patients, mean age 51.3 years, affected by hallux valgus, with a mean follow-up of 50.1 months. 13 feet underwent addition osteotomy with resected exostosis (AORE) and 11 patients (11 feet) underwent addition osteotomy with plate (AOP). The AOFAS score, intermetatarsal 1 and 2 angles, and hallux valgus angle were evaluated before and after surgery. RESULTS In the AORE technique, the mean preoperative AOFAS was 46.6, with IMA 14(o) and HVA 32o, while in the postoperative AOFAS it was 81.3, with IMA 9(o) and HVA 25(o), and 92.3% satisfactory results. In the AOP technique, the mean preoperative AOFAS was 42.1, with IMA 15(o) and HVA 29(o) while in the postoperative AOFAS it was 77.4, with IMA 11(o) and HVA 23(o) and 81.8% of satisfactory results. CONCLUSIONS Both techniques proved to be effective in the treatment of hallux valgus, both clinically and radiografically, with no statistical difference between them. Level of evidence III, Retrospective comparative study.

Comparison of Clinical Outcomes of Scarf and Chevron Osteotomies and the McBride Procedure in the Treatment of Hallux Valgus Deformity

Background:   Hallux valgus deformity is a common chronic problem in middle age and elderly. Different surgical procedures have been introduced so far with their proposed indications for each. This study aimed to compare three   current procedures namely Chevron osteotomy, Scarf osteotomy and McBride technique.     Methods:   In this study, 44 patients were included from 2010 to 2013. Hallux valgus (bunions).

INTRODUCTION: Hallux valgus (bunions) are prominent and often inflamed metatarsal heads and overlying bursae. They are associated with valgus deviation of the great toe which moves towards the second toe. Hallux valgus is found in at least 2% of children aged 9 to 10 years, and almost half of adults, with greater prevalence in women. METHODS AND OUTCOMES: We conducted a systematic review and ai...

Proximal metatarsal osteotomy and distal soft tissue reconstruction as treatment for hallux valgus deformity.

The correction of a hallux valgus deformity with a proximal 1(st) metatarsal osteotomy and distal soft tissue repair is achieved with a three-incision technique. A lateral soft tissue release and reconstruction at the first metatarsophalangeal joint releases contracted structures including the lateral capsule, the transverse inter-metatarsal ligament and the conjoint adductor tendon. Rarely is ...

The Proximal Opening Wedge Osteotomy for the Correction of Hallux Valgus Deformity

Many surgical procedures exist to correct metatarsus primus varus associated with hallux valgus deformity. Among these procedures are various first metatarsal osteotomies. Both distal and proximal osteotomies have been described to correct these deformities with the latter typically used for the more severe deformity. The goal of the operative procedure is correction of the intermetatarsal and ...

Hallux valgus and first ray mobility. A prospective study.

BACKGROUND There have been few prospective studies that have documented the outcome of surgical treatment of hallux valgus deformities. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of operative treatment of hallux valgus with use of a proximal crescentic osteotomy and distal soft-tissue repair on the first metatarsophalangeal joint. METHODS All adult patients in whom moderate ...
